  • AT ISSUE- SUFFERING

2-4 “If only my anguish could be weighed and all my misery be placed on the scales! It would surely outweigh the sand of the seas— no wonder my words have been impetuous. The arrows of the Almighty are in me, my spirit drinks in their poison; God’s terrors are marshaled against me. ...8-10 “Oh, that I might have my request, that God would grant what I hope for, that God would be willing to crush me, to let loose his hand and cut off my life! Then I would still have this Consolation— my joy in unrelenting pain— that I had not denied the words of the Holy One. Job 6:1-10

"When Job's life fell apart, he asked the same questions human beings have asked for millennia: Why me? What did I do to deserve this? How could God allow this to happen to me? Maybe you're in Job's shoes-feeling abandoned, rejected and hopeless. Maybe you are demanding answers from God. But as Job discovered, knowing the God who created you is better than knowing the answers to all your questions. Because when you know and trust his love, you'll find the freedom and hope that will enable you to trust in God's control over all things, even your suffering."

  • HE CARES

“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:7

You cannot out-care God. His capacity to care is infinite, and His competence to care is matchless. You can care because He cares. There is no care of yours that God does not care about. If it is important to you, then God cares about it.

  • PROMISE OF HEAVEN

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going.” John 14:1-4

...Jesus extends the promise of heaven to all who come to Him by faith. Eternal life with Him is reason enough to receive the gift of God’s grace in His Son. Jesus prepares a place in heaven for those who have prepared for heaven. His preparations are intentional for people who are intentional in their faith preparations. Heaven is prepared for the prepared.

  • REASONABLE CONFLICT

Isa 1:18-20 “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the LORD. “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool. If you are willing and obedient, you will eat the good things of the land; but if you resist and rebel, you will be devoured by the sword.” For the mouth of the LORD has spoken.

...Resolution and forgiveness are often forged on the anvil of reason and compassion. Unreasonable disagreements become reasonable conflicts when you take the time to figure out what it is you're fighting about.

  • MADE WITH A PURPOSE

"Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness ... So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him" (Genesis 1:26-27).

...Thousands of people admit that they are unhappy. Economic security, recreation, pleasure and a good community to live in have not brought about the peace and happiness they expected. The reason is that man was created in the image of God and can find no complete rest, happiness, joy and peace until he comes back to God.

  • AT ISSUE - REJECTION

2 Chron 11:13-17 14 The Levites even abandoned their pasturelands and property and came to Judah and Jerusalem, because Jeroboam and his sons had rejected them as priests of the LORD 15 when he appointed his own priests for the high places and for the goat and calf idols he had made. 16 Those from every tribe of Israel who set their hearts on seeking the LORD, the God of Israel, followed the Levites to Jerusalem to offer sacrifices to the LORD, the God of their ancestors.

  • REAL CHANGE

Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! - Romans 7:24-25

How would the people closest to me know that I am relying entirely on Jesus in dealing with the need for change in my life?

  • SECOND CHANCES

Gen. 44:33 Now therefore, please let your servant remain instead of the lad as a slave to my lord, and let the lad go up with his brothers. 34 For how shall I go up to my father if the lad is not with me, lest perhaps I see the evil that would come upon my father?"

"Judah's second chance came when, from his perspective, Benjamin's life was in danger. Judah put his own life on the line. Perhaps this commitment was taken into account in the blessings he passed on to his sons, resulting in the Messiah coming through the tribe of Judah.
Throughout life we are given second chances. We should take these chances and set things right."

  • OUR SECRET WEAPON

1 Chron. 5:18-22 ... 1Ch 5:22 For a great number fell mortally wounded, because the battle was God's.

"...We fight battles within ourselves-against insecurity, anxiety, depression. We fight for spiritual territory rather than for plots of land. We fight against the fallen things in this world: materialism, greed, selfishness, addiction, violence, apathy, prejudice, injustice . . . and the list goes on. Daunting enemies, indeed. ... As soldiers in God's army we are called to do battle with evil by putting on the armor of God (see Ephesians 6:10-18 )...."

  • FAULTY CHANGE PLAN #1

And he said, “There was a man who had two sons. And the younger of them said to his father, ‘Father, give me the share of property that is coming to me.’ And he divided his property between them. Not many days later, the younger son gathered all he had and took a journey into a far country, and there he squandered his property in reckless living.”—Luke 15:11-13

The details vary, but prodigals usually follow the same script outline. They reject their environment, often with uncontrolled carelessness. The Prodigal went wild and “squandered his inheritance with reckless living” (v.13). Eventually, he got to the end of his rope and his resources. He “came to himself” (v.17). He couldn’t fix his past or his problems. His change of environment had only helped to reveal the real problem—him. He had a heart problem. He had to change!

  • HEAVEN HOME OF LAUGHTER

Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh. — Luke 6:21

"...The new universe will ring with laughter. Am I just speculating about this? No. I can point to Scripture worth memorizing. Jesus says, "Blessed are you who hunger now, for you will be satisfied. Blessed are you who weep now, for you will laugh" (Luke 6:21). You will laugh. ..."

  • "Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins."
    1 Peter 4:8

" The Bible endorses a mature marriage commitment based on love. It's a choice we make-whether we feel like being loving or not (see Colossians 3:12-14). In every relationship, we will face times when we feel as if the love is lacking. Like the Israelites who didn't feel like they could go on (see Exodus 16:3), we may desperately want to give up during difficult seasons. While fluctuating feelings are a reality in marriage, they are not a loophole in the marriage vows. ..."

  • LIFE GIVING PEACE

“A heart at peace gives life to the body, but envy rots the bones.” Proverbs 14:30

"... If peace is such an essential ingredient for life, why can it be so allusive? Guilt has a way of grinding away at the goodness of God that lies dormant in a heart unaffected by discipleship. Conversion to Christ does not guarantee that His peace will have preeminence, but it does position us for easy access to His grace. Like an orphan adopted by loving parents—acceptance of our heavenly Father’s love creates peaceful security. ..."

  • SOLICIT PRAYER

“Pray for us. We are sure that we have a clear conscience and desire to live honorably in every way. I particularly urge you to pray so that I may be restored to you soon.” Hebrews 13:18-19

..." The need for prayer is not just a private matter, but also one that requires public awareness. Prayer is personal and it invites the engagement of other Christ followers. Personal needs aren’t meant for concealment like a castaway on a deserted island. Instead, during uncertain circumstances, communities of believers rally together in intercession on behalf of their brothers and sisters. Prayer is a platform to say: “I care”. ..."

  • DIVINE DIRECTION

“I know, O Lord, that a man’s life is not his own; it is not for man to direct his steps.” Jeremiah 10:23

"...We do not own our lives. We have been bought with a price (1 Corinthians 6:20). Jesus’ sacrificial blood purchased our freedom from the fire of hell, sin, and death. By faith, He owns us. A great exchange took place when you first believed in Jesus. What’s yours became His, and what’s His became yours. ..."
