HUMBLE BEGINNINGS
When God is ready to put His plan into motion, His people will have thoughts about
the plan. We see this pattern throughout the Bible.
That's exactly how God laid the foundation for Cross Creek Baptist. As far back as 1992, people were having dreams about starting a church in Grain Valley. After several years of pondering and seeing housing developments attract hundreds, then thousands, of people to the community, the time was right for the church plant to become a reality.
Leadership at First Baptist Church of Oak Grove began receiving letters and comments from church members with a heart to start a new church in Grain Valley. A mission team was selected and the work began.
On a Saturday morning, in the cold of January, a small but brave group of people hit the streets of Grain Valley's newest housing addition, asking residents if there was an interest for a new church.
On Easter Sunday, 1998, the morning dawned on a "Preview Service" at Royer Funeral Home. That service became Cross Creek Baptist Mission. Two more services were held at Royer's before fall arrived. During that time, home Bible studies laid the foundation for a church start.
Much prayer was invested in God's work concerning Grain Valley. God assigned the church planters and Cross Creek Baptist Mission was up and running. Weekly services were held in Grain Valley Schools for more than a year, until the church could financially support the building it leased from 1999 until January of 2004, when they moved to the present location.
With the generous support from First Baptist Church of Oak Grove, Missouri Baptist Convention,
Blue River KC Baptist Association, FBC Branson, and contributions from individuals, Cross Creek Baptist was able to grow.
With such a rich history of God's involvement in the planting, birthing, and growing of Cross Creek Baptist, there is no doubt He will continue to provide for every need.
What do you do when suddenly your church is told it will have to move? It’s not an easy task to “suddenly” find a place to hold church. Where will you hold church when you are desperate? Anywhere. We made plans to hold worship services in a machine shed less than a mile from our location. Thirty minutes after the plans were finalized, a call was received from the pastor leasing our current building offering it to us for a third of the cost of the previous building. After occupying the building for a year, the church made an offer to purchase. After a period of negotiations, Cross Creek Baptist officially purchased its first piece of property... and we've been caring for and restoring this building ever since.
God is good!
